Care After Damage

In the unfortunate circumstance of fire or flooding in your home, we are available to help clean and restore your collection. We employ conservation cleaning, as with a ‘Deep Clean’, and use specific techniques to deal with smoke and water damage.

After a fire, the damage to your collection is often more due to the smoke and water than the fire itself. Smoke particles are far-reaching and can cause damage to a variety of surfaces. Using a variety of methods, including dry cleaning with HEPA vacuum and vulcanized rubber ‘Smoke sponges’ to remove smoke and chemical residues, collections can be salvaged.

Flooding or water damage may leave watermarks and residue on the surface of your collections. To regain the appearance and to stop further damage it is important to clean the surfaces to stop mold growth and remove all impurities. This can be done with a variety of ‘dry’ and wet-cleaning methods dependent upon the material affected.

We are also available to take inventories of your collection and complete ‘Condition Reports and Surveys’ of the collection and property to advise on further treatment if necessary. For more complex damage and works that need to be completed away from your home, we are able to make recommendations for specialist Conservators who can undertake a full treatment and repair.
